PASTORAL CARE
A dedicated group of parishioners give of their time and talent to support the Pastoral Care ministry of Reverend Canon Claire and St. Thomas' Anglican Church. This Ministry includes:
VISITING THE SICK & SHUT-IN: Visiting parishioners who are unable to attend one of our weekly services, is an essential part of our ministry at St. Thomas. Visits may be made to hospitals, nursing or retirement residences or to private homes. Members of our Pastoral Care group work under the guidance of Reverend Canon Claire. Holy Communion, Anointing and/or Prayers for Healing may be offered to the sick and shut-in on these visits, by Canon Claire and the licensed visitors.
SERVICES AT NURSING HOMES & RETIREMENT RESIDENCES: We conduct monthly celebrations of the Eucharist at local nursing and/or retirement residences. Services are held at the Court at Brooklin, Fairview Lodge and Taunton Mills in Whitby. A 4th monthly service begun at Lynde Creek Manor in Whitby, this year, has been well-received and is well-attended. A combined total of fourteen parishioners support this program.
THE CARD MINISTRY: Get well, thinking of you and condolence messages are sent to parishioners, as appropriate. Cards are sent out each week to those parishioners who will be prayed for at the regular Sunday services.
THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY: The Prayer Shawl Ministry is completed by volunteers who have given countless hours knitting prayer shawls which are blessed by Canon Claire and given out to the sick as well as to all the newly baptized.
MINISTRY TO THE BEREAVED: We provide support for bereaved families, as needed, by organizing and catering funeral receptions held in our Parish Hall. This effort is kindly led by a professional team, who come together, when requested, to provide a valuable service for our parishioners and others.
PRAYER CIRCLE: Prayer Circle is a small group of parishioners including Reverend Canon Claire who quietly and privately offer prayer support for members of St. Thomas and others, upon request.
LAY ANOINTERS: Lay Anointers are licensed by the Bishop to assist Reverend Canon Claire at the Anointing and Prayer for Healing services. This ministry is offered on the 3rd Sunday of every month, following both the 8:30 am and 10:30am services as well as at the weekly Wednesday morning service.
THANKS: We are most grateful to all those who give of their time and talent to Pastoral Care at St. Thomas. It is a major part of the ministry of our parish, because of your faithfulness and dedication.
If anyone would like to be a part of Pastoral Care, please advise Reverend Canon Claire.
