FAITHWORKS
The annual outreach appeal of the diocese of Toronto gives Anglicans an opportunity to serve those most in need. The financial contributions of the parishioners support over a dozen vital community ministries working throughout the Diocese. The partner agencies of Faithworks are Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) assisting with disasters around the world and the Anglican Appeal. Funds can be directed by parishioners to the community ministry of their choice or to disaster relief.
A portion of what is given comes back to the parish for the support of outreach community ministries in our own area. For more information, visit www.faithworks.ca/

MZUZU
The Mzuzu HIV/AIDS Orphan Care Program is sponsored by St Peter's Anglican Church in Cobourg, Ontario and other community churches such as St. Thomas’ Church. It raises funds for improving the nutrition of 250 AIDS/HIV orphans in Mzuzu, Northern Malawi, and provides them with health and educational support through an agreement with St Mark's Anglican Parish Church in Mzuzu. Orphans there are particularly malnourished and are threatened with starvation due to a lack of community support services. St. Thomas’ youth program sponsored the food supplement for the children of Mzuzu. The program began in 2005 and 250 HIV/AIDS orphans were part of the weekly feeding program in 2018. The Youth of St. Thomas’ Brooklin will be starting a new project, Feed the Need, in 2019. |
REFUGEE OUTREACH of ANGLICANS in DURHAM (ROAD)
Since 2015, St. Thomas’ Brooklin has joined with other churches (4) who work together to bring refugee families to Canada. The first family arrived in August, 2017 from Syria. Presently, ROAD2 has been formed with another group of four churches to bring the second family to Canada. Their expected arrival is 2019. The leadership role is presently held by St. Thomas’ parishioners but it is hoped that with each new family, the refugee project can be rotated throughout the region. Each family requires a budget of approximately $50,000. that is raised through fundraising. We are so excited that our second family of refugees are scheduled to arrive on Thursday, October 3rd at Pearson Airport. The Khatib family ( Abdullah, Feryal, Maryam, and Ahlam) are the children and grandchildren of our first family. Everyone is anticipating their arrival with joy. Prayer for their safe arrival. |
